Built on Bedrock Principles

The International Geotechnical Society stands as the preeminent authority in recognizing excellence within the geotechnical engineering profession.

From our headquarters in the heart of Nashville, Tennessee—a city built upon the ancient limestone foundations of the Cumberland Basin—we have cultivated an organization that understands both the science beneath our feet and the professionals who dedicate their careers to understanding it.

Our mission extends beyond mere recognition. We are the architects of professional standards, the curators of engineering excellence, and the bridge connecting distinguished practitioners across every geological terrain of this nation.

Our Mission

To identify, recognize, and celebrate the firms and individuals who exemplify the highest standards of geotechnical engineering practice.

Our Vision

A profession where excellence is not merely achieved but celebrated, documented, and elevated as the standard to which all aspire.

Categories of Distinction

Each year, the International Geotechnical Society honors excellence across five prestigious categories, recognizing both established leaders and emerging talent.

Project of the Year

National award

Celebrating the single most impressive geotechnical engineering project completed within the calendar year, judged on complexity, innovation, and impact.

Innovation Award

National award

Honoring breakthrough methodologies, technologies, or approaches that advance the science and practice of geotechnical engineering.

Lifetime Achievement

National award

The Society's most venerable distinction, presented to individuals whose careers have fundamentally shaped the geotechnical engineering profession.

Rising Star

One recipient per region

Recognizing exceptional young professionals (under 35) who demonstrate extraordinary promise and early career achievements in geotechnical engineering.

The Recognition Process

01

Nomination

Firms may self-nominate or be nominated by peers, clients, or Society members. Nominations open each January and close March 31st.

02

Regional Review

Our Regional Committees—composed of distinguished practitioners and past honorees—evaluate nominees against rigorous criteria of excellence.
